Spinning Wheels

Ashford Spinning Wheels are supplied as kits with easy to follow assembly instructions. The kits may be purchased unfinished, with a clear gloss finish or with a antique stain-lacquer finish. Exceptions are noted with wheel descriptions. All wheels are made of New Zealand Beech, an attractive and durable hardwood.

Ashford Traditional Wheel

If you're starting out and looking for a good first wheel, select the Traditional with scotch tension. This is Ashford's most popular wheel because it is so versatile. It's easy to use for learning, and you can later buy simple add-on kits that allow you to adapt the wheel to specific types of spinning as you begin to experiment more. It is available in single or double drive, and if you are left handed Ashford has created a version especially for you. 4 bobbins and Lazy Kate are included in the kit. It is also a classically styled wheel made from beautiful New Zealand Silver beech.

Ashford Electric Spinner

If you are wanting to spin large amounts of yarn, perhaps for a small cottage industry, or if you have trouble treadling, the electronic is your best choice.

It has a silent motor and a large range of flyer speeds from 0-1500RPM, so it is suitable for all skill levels. Hand controls allow you to easily turn the motor off and on, change speed and direction. Ashford Country Spinner

This wheel has been specially designed for spinning thick and bulky novelty yarns. It has an extra large orifice and large size bobbin which can hold up to a kilogram (2.2 lbs) of yarn! It is easy to start and treadle.

There's no need to ply the yarns, just knit or weave them for wonderful texture and warmth.

Ashford Kiwi

Charka Wheel

Spin fine yarns and short fibres on this compact and portable accelerated charka.

Two ratio's, 80:1 for cotton, silk, angora or fine wool or 16:1 for medium longer fibres. Set the wheel up with the crank on either the left or right hand side. Light and smooth to turn as wheel, spindle and countershaft rotate on ball bearings.

The spindle is made from 4mm (5/32") stainless steel and the base sits on non-slip rubber feet. The spindle can be rotated sideways for safety and transport.

The Charka is pre finished with danish oil.
